I love this

Getting out of burnout and survival mode feels overwhelming and impossible. Thank you for helping me see the first step.

I really felt this one. I work at a company now that has more or less told us this week that they’re going to keep adding more work without adding more help until “the machine breaks” (my chief commercial officer’s words). The part he seems to have missed is that human machines have been breaking for years. I’ve been in survival mode for ages and now we are going to be at each other’s throats to try to avoid blame as the machine inevitably breaks. Reminds me of a more twisted version of the old joke about two hikers in the woods running into a bear and one of them is very calm, when his friend asks “why are you so calm? You can’t outrun a bear” his friend says “I don’t have to outrun the bear. I just need to outrun you” I too feel like I’m writing into the void but at least it gives me some sense of agency in all this or “some air” as you aptly put it. Thanks for sharing this.

Man, that joke about the hikers really hits home and depicts a lot of the corporate environments. I agree, it seems like the human-ness is draining faster and faster from workplaces. It makes it harder to go in each day.

I’m glad this one resonated. Hopefully we both make it out soon!
